GREENWICH

This Gold Coast town in Connecticut still remains the most desirable and sought-after place.

Welcome to Greenwich

Settled in 1640, Greenwich, present-day Old Greenwich, began as a farming community along the Asamuck and Patomuck rivers. By 1730, Greenwich grew north and west to the New York State border laying out the nearly 50 square miles that we know today.

In 1848, came the railroad brought immigrants north from NYC. When you drive around Greenwich today, you can still see remnants of the past and what it might have been like, and who might have lived there.

Not only did Greenwich catch the eye of immigrants, but the eye of Gilded Age society. Connecticut's Gold Coast was born! Along the shoreline, resorts and hotels were built catering to wealthy New Yorkers wishing to escape the summer heat. Notable neighborhoods of the time where permanent summer cottages popped up were Belle Haven, Field Point Park, Byram Shore, and Rock Ridge. Families like Converse, Gimbel, and Rockefeller amassed large land holdings, creating gentleman farms and city escapes that eventually turned into full-time residences.

The decline of great estates came with WWII. While many of the grand homes were demolished and much of the land holdings greatly divided, a few have remained private residences and have been lovingly restored to today's standards. This division in Greenwich paved the way for a new age of great estates in the modern era, this Gold Coast town in Connecticut still remains the most desirable and sought-after place to live on the eastern seaboard.

This idyllic town is in such a convenient and incredible location. No matter where you want to go, there is easy access to take you in all directions. I95 and the Merritt Parkway run through town and can quickly take you to I287 and I684 or to the Hutchinson River Parkway. Metro-North provides 4 train stations along the coast with stops at Greenwich, Cos Cob, Riverside, and Old Greenwich takes only 40-60 minutes to Grand Central. A quick drive to Stamford for all-day express trains to NYC and Amtrak access. Part of the jet-set crowd? Westchester County Airport minutes away provide direct flights, private jets, and helicopter rides to transport you wherever your heart desires.
