Welcome to Bedford

Could you imagine buying or selling your home or plot of land for an assortment of coats, blankets, cloth and wampum? Thats exactly what 22 Puritan settlers from Stamford, CT did in 1680. They purchased a tract of land three square miles known as the “Hopp Ground” from Chief Katonah and other Mohegan tribe Chiefs. When you travel around Bedford, you might wonder why the character of the area feels more like a New England village than one of New York. That is because up until 1700, Bedford was considered part of Connecticut. It wasn’t until that time that King William III of England issued a royal decree settling a dispute between New York and Connecticut, making Bedford officially a New York village.

The town of Bedford contains four hamlets: Bedford, Bedford Hills, Bedford Corners & Katonah. The area is home to farms, grand equestrian estates, cafes, restaurants such as the Bedford Post Inn (maybe you will run into Martha Stewart, Denis Leary or Richard Gere), and quaint antique shops. Easy access to the Sawmill Parkway, I684 and the Westchester County Airport. Most importantly, it is only an 1 hour 20 minute train ride from Bedford Hills to Grand Central, so you can truly have town & country.
